On the 25 of April 2021, we had a “get together” at the SIFAIS. In Spanish, we call it a –convivio– because we “live” together for some hours. We share together.

This time because of the Pandemic, just thirty of us were able to be in the SIFAIS and the rest were there virtually. Thank God for technology!

We got together so we can get to meet each other and share each other’s experiences.

Some of the people who were there: Ms. Maris, Ms. Maria del Socorro, the English teacher, and Marcos the coordinator.

It was so cool to hear how the collaborators of Zonas ACTIM went and look for sponsors for the project, and even though many told them that it was a bad idea, and it couldn’t be done, some told them that they were going to participate as sponsors and they believed in us, like ULTRA PARK, who actually donated the computers and give 40.000 Colones monthly to each student.

Now thanks to Zonas ACTIM we are able to study technology and English since 2019.

Mr. Maris and 3 other classmates talked during the presentation. I understood most of what they said so I was happy about that.

Ms. Maris organizes everything, and she is always taking care of everyone and representing us.

She said that she didn’t speak any English at the beginning and that even after some time she thought that she didn’t speak English, but when the people from Polonia came from the UN, back at the beginning of April, she had to practice her English with her and then she realized she spoke better than she thought. These people were in Costa Rica for a month.

I think the “Get Together” activity was great and super cheerful. I felt a little nervous at the beginning because I didn’t speak English like some of my classmates and also a little sad because there is only a little time left for the project in order to finish everything.

I love how all the coordinators are always following up with us and they are truly interested in us. I love how everyone supports each other.

If it wasn’t for this program, I would have never known that I liked computer science and English so very much. When I was in high school, they used to ask me what I wanted to do, but I didn’t know then. Now I know I like what I’m learning so much and that is what I want to do.

I’m so grateful this is a real community.
